How do I know if my child has sensory or motor difficulties?

Your child may benefit from Occupational Therapy services if he/she shows:

  • Low or decreased overall endurance (tires easily)
  • Low or decreased overall strength or endurance (tires easily and poor posture)
  • Defensive responses to smells, tastes, touch, sounds or self care activities
  • Excessive seeking of smells, tastes, touch, sounds or mouthing
  • Fear or hesitancy towards movement activities
  • Excessive seeking of movement (crashing, spinning, jumping)
  • Difficulty regulating behaviors (over/under reactive, over/under active)
  • Difficulty with age appropriate self care skills
  • Low or decreased safety awareness
  • Clumsiness, poor coordination
  • Difficulty manipulating toys, writing utensils or small objects
  • Difficulty attending to tasks
  • Difficulty calming self, changing routines or sequencing tasks
  • Feeding difficulties (self feeding, limited variety of food)
  • Lack of participation in age approriate academic activities
